Why Does Everything Have to Be So Complicated?

I called Craig's guidance counselor to update him on the surgery and try to get the ball rolling on accomodations he'll need in the Fall. The state requires two semesters of gym, but the school is required to accomodate Craig's limitations. I told the GC that for the first 6 months post op he can walk and that is all. He told me the teachers would be required to have him walk in gym and grade him on that. But, before the school can do anything they need a note from the doctor, specifying what Craig can and can't do. So, I called and spoke with the nurse, who was very helpful and sympathetic to the gym class dilemma. She thinks the state should let him off the hook completely as the doctor does not want him in gym for a year, will probably not approve walking in gym class because of the chance that someone involved in another activity may bump into him and knock him down, and if the doctor does approve walking for gym, it probably won't be until 3-4 weeks after school has started. If a child misses too many days of gym then they don't get credit for the semester so that is a problem. The other problem is Craig won't see the Dr. until the week before school starts so that doesn't leave much time to get everything taken care of. On top of that, the nurse also told me that Craig probably won't be permitted to attend school full day for several weeks and probably won't want to because of fatigue. This is a huge problem because the school won't don't do part-time homebound education. The two options are attend 1/2 his classes one day and 1/2 the next so he goes to all of his classes half the time or cut his schedule to 4 classes for the first semester. The GC is leaning toward the second option and Craig will not be happy with it. He also will not be permitted to carry a backpack or even a single textbook, but this is easily solved by a double set of texts--one for home and one for school. So, I'm feeling a bit... I don't know, not frustrated, not discouraged, just lacking control of things and I don't like it. Patience has never been my strong point and we'll have to wait all summer to see what the doctor determines, then hurry up and make things happen so he'll be ready to start school.
