Done With the Orthopedic Surgeon...At Least For Two Years

Craig had one last doctor visit today. He went to see his orthopedic surgeon. The fusion is complete so he can now participate in any activity he wants to. The portion that was fused is straight, but slants off to the left, probably due to the FA. Dr. Hoffman said he could have continued the fusion into the lumbar region, but it wouldn't have necessarily prevented that problem and it would have impaired his mobility. As he said, "We're trying to keep him out of a wheelchair, not make a pretty x-ray." Yep! He's had FA cases before and done them all the same way with good results. Only once did he have to go back and fuse lower on the spine. We have to go back every two years so he can check how things are, but looking at Craig you would never know he had scoliosis. He stands straight and tall, his shoulders are even and he is free of a brace!
