Twas the Night Before the MTC

Tom took Ellen to Utah on the Saturday before she entered the MTC so she could see Abby, visit with some friends and play for a few final days.
On the day before she went in, after finishing up some last-minute shopping, they hiked Y Mountain to take in the view of the valley. Then they headed to the MTC to take some pictures. By the time they left the MTC, Abby was ready to go in with her.

They have streamlined the MTC entry experience. No one but the missionary is allowed to enter the MTC. Tom pulled up to the front, several missionaries stormed the trunk to get her bags, Abby and Tom gave her a hug, then someone pointed the way out to Tom and that was it. The whole process took 2 minutes. Tom said it was a bit surreal. After all the waiting the time had come and she was gone. We woke up Thursday morning to an email from the MTC mission presidency telling us our missionary had been safely checked in. They gave us her address and a list of things not to do. We haven't heard from her yet, but P-day has got to be coming soon.

I've already sent her two boxes. The first one was full of stuff she forgot. The second was full of snacks.

One of my friends has a sister in the MTC right now. She has dinner at 4:30 and class after that until 9:30. I figured if Ellen ended up with that schedule she'd be starving by bedtime. We are anxious to hear from her and get the scoop.
